    This Week’s Focus

Pisces: divine water and the exalted feminine
The value of a woman is not in her ability to be like, think, or act like a man; it is in keeping alive the gentler, subtler, and the more aesthetic aspects of Life that women will truly come into their own. This will bring true empowerment — for women, men, and the world.

is because men need it more.

~ From a talk by Sadhguru

    Dear Friends;

With International Women’s Day approaching on 8 March, the next few issues of Astrology of Joy will be dedicated to the feminine…

On 18 February, the Sun moves into Pisces, the 12th sign of the zodiac related to the water element. Like water, Pisces embraces the feminine quality: nurturing, life-giving, healing, empathetic, compassionate, fluid, imaginative, creative. In Vedic astrology, Pisces is also associated with intuition, insight, emotional sensitivity and connection, enlightenment and liberation.

In astrology, fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) and air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) are masculine. Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) and earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) are feminine. Thus, there are six signs masculine and six signs feminine indicating our nature as embodying both qualities… equally. An issue arises, however, when we skew too much to one side or the other. A man who skews feminine becomes indecisive, hesitant, and confused. A woman who skews masculine becomes aggressive, impatient, and opinionated. Imagine if these two come together in relationship… fireworks and hurt feelings! 😁

To live life to its full potential means we have fully accessed both our healthy feminine and our healthy masculine. After all, as human beings, we have been endowed by the Creator to be a reflection of the Cosmos which embodies the masculine and feminine qualities. Still, we live in a community of humans…

What happens when society skews to one side or the other?

The masculine qualities are primarily about the survival of life and the feminine qualities are primarily about the quality of life. As you can see, both are necessary. Without the masculine, we would have never learned to make a spear to hunt a wooly mammoth; without the feminine, we would have never created intricate tapestries from its wool.

An issue of concern raised by many mystics like Sadhguru and Baba Muktananda tell us that one of the major roadblocks in modern society is the continued masculinisation of the feminine which in turn contributes to the feminisation of the masculine. Initially, the women’s movement was a pushback on the trampling of women’s rights and began in earnest in the early 1900s, but like many things that start out well, movements get hijacked by those with more power and resources — and whose agenda’s may ultimately prove to be at great odds with the original intent.

Indeed, “International Women’s Day” has roots back to the Russian Revolution when Vladimir Lenin designated the day to commemorate the 8 March demonstration by women textile workers in Petrograd against poverty and the war in Europe (WW I). According to Leon Trotsky, the women’s protest was the unexpected beginning of the Russian Revolution which exploded four days later, a revolution that eventually claimed the lives of ten to twelve million people and ushered in a period of socialism that is estimated to have killed upwards of 200 million people in the 20th century. What began as a worthy cause became an utter nightmare for untold millions. Do you think this is what those women in Petrograd had in mind?

The Sun, a masculine symbol in astrology, loves being in Pisces, a feminine sign. Why? Because the masculine energy needs guidance. It needs love, compassion, and empathy, otherwise the masculine becomes destructive. Sadhguru has said many times that the most destructive person is a confident person without clarity…

Clarity is fuelled by the feminine — by love, compassion, and empathy. This is not saying emotions should dominate for the road to hell is paved with good intentions, but neither should the masculine dominate lest we experience war and famine again and again.

We need both. In perfect balance. During the month of Pisces, we have a real chance to understand this not only in our own life, but as it relates to making the world a better place — for all of us.

Every man who is any kind of artist has a great deal of female in him. I act and give of myself as a man, but I register and receive with the soul of a woman.

    Sun in Pisces
    18 FEB — 20 MAR

The Sun is the Creator and does well in Pisces, a sign of the zodiac known for creativity and artistic expression. Use this time to support your creative inspiration and humanitarian goals. You are a reflection of the one true Sun and have your part to play as you. Imagination, storytelling, spiritual progress, and caring for your fellow human beings is strong. Pisces is a water sign and this means Love.

Fun Fact: Zodiac comes from the Greek zodiakos (kyklos) which literally means “circle of little animals” and is one indication of how astrological knowledge was shared between the cultures of Greece and India beginning in the time of Alexander the Great. For thousands of years before the Greeks, the Vedic culture used a 12-part circle which represented 12 aspects of the Sun (Adityas) and offer us some fascinating insights not gleaned from the Greeks.

The Aditya that corresponds to Pisces is Dhata, the creator of all living beings and is related to the mother and the capacity to bear the responsibilities that creating brings just as a mother shoulders the burden of raising her brood. Dhata is ultimately about bearing worthwhile burdens that bring about a better world.

    Quick read:
    Sun-Mercury-Saturn-Rahu-Neptune in Pisces
    • Opportunity: Lots of colliding thoughts… Saturn and the Sun are arch enemies because Saturn makes the Sun think it is weak, lazy, stupid, and a host of other unpleasantries — all of which are exaggerated by a mischievous Rahu and Neptune. The Sun does well in Pisces when it is allowed to focus on expressing authenticity. Spend time around upbeat, positive people and avoid the naysayers and humbugs.
    A little more…
Sun conjunct Mercury 9 FEB: the Sun and Mercury are neutral to each other so as long as they give each other space, things go well. The Sun is your desire to express yourself and Mercury is your capacity to investigate. This conjunction points to the need to investigate what is authentic for you without getting lost in an endless cycle of trial and error.

Moon in Scorpio 18 — 19 FEB: Moon in Scorpio is interesting — depending upon where it is in Scorpio, it means distinctly different things. To keep it simple, on the 18th, there can be a tendency to fulfil needs inappropriately. On the 19th, the Moon’s position supports devotional practices. If you have no practices or you feel unwanted desires, spend time around the sea, a loch, or a river or a stream.

Moon Sagittarius 20 — 22 FEB: The Moon enjoys being in Sagittarius because it’s a “can-do” sign ruled by Jupiter, the planet of all-encompassing love. The Moon has emotional needs it seeks to fulfil and Jupiter reminds the Moon that the best “needs” to fulfil are the needs of the heart. Hint: look to make the world a better place. No need to start a new movement; look around you and make the world better as you are with what you have. Guaranteed to be stress free.

    And a little more…
They say two’s company, but three’s a crowd. What about five? With the Sun moving into Pisces, this means five planets will be vying for your attention. Things may get a bit confusing if you are attempting to make plans and listening to all those voices. Instead, take a break, make yourself a nice mocha and contemplate your navel… or even better, pick up pen and paper, a paintbrush, or your phone and make a selfie video. Go for a walk in nature. Join a choir and sing your heart full. The point is to awaken your creative potential. If it’s already awake, great! Just don’t let it fall back to sleep.

    Retrograde Register
Keeping you abreast of the current retrograde planets and their significations
As viewed from Earth, when planets appear to go backwards they are said to be in retrograde motion. Astrologically, the significations of such planets become more internalised. They also become more powerful and will increase challenge or triumph depending upon your horoscope. For an in-depth examination of how retrograde planets are currently affecting your day-to-day goals and activities, David offers a Retrograde Reading for £35 for a 60 minute online consultation.

    Retrograde Significations
    Highlighting the current retrograde planets
    • Mars Retrograde: December 6, 2024-February 23, 2025
      • Retrograde Mars is approaching the end of its backward motion is in Cancer, a friendly sign where its propensity to act can bring you success, but only if you keep your emotions in check. Don’t be in a rush. Patience is a virtue.
      • Next week: Mars Direct 24 FEB in Cancer: Ah! Mars finally ends its long retrograde motion and begins moving forward. Mars is “sleepy” in Cancer while moving forward, so its biggest indication is that we may not take the action we need to make progress. Cancer is ruled by the Moon which is about fulfilling our needs, especially emotional ones.

Sun in Pisces: A Chance for Peace in the Ukraine?

It is well that war is so terrible lest we grow too fond of it.
~ Robert E. Lee (1807 — 1870), General of the Confederate Army, US Civil War

Robert E Lee said these profound words after witnessing a Union charge at the battle of Fredericksburg and the terrible toll it took on both human beings and nature. As with many things in life, one of the issues I see in society and with many of our leaders are the Ivory Towers from which they dispense advice, protected from the reality of the death and destruction and fight for survival many people face each day. War is hell for all, but it is more hellish for the innocent.

Following the recent Ukraine peace initiative from US President Trump and his cabinet, European leaders have been proclaiming their indignation. This is disingenuous, at best, for they have had three years to end hostilities, but only succeeded in escalating the conflict. Some leaders are more measured in their response and simply urge patience. The point is that at least both sides are talking, something European leaders (and the previous US administration) were unable to do.

    Is there a chance?

Yes, of course. The Sun moves into Pisces and helps enliven the prospects of a healthy resolution. Jupiter rules Pisces and is a dear friend to the Sun. Jupiter is the good that exists in all people and the all-encompassing love that embraces the planet. Jupiter is in Gemini free from any dark and foreboding delays from Saturn. Mercury is Jupiter’s only enemy currently, but can slow things down by directing people’s attention towards external goals and demanding a one-sided victory over the other. That is not going to happen. Both sides must give and take.

There is also some concern with Saturn and Rahu in Pisces which can indicate allowing fear to blind the eye to what is real and what is workable. Certainly we see this from so many comments that speak of “appeasement” and setting Putin up for another attack down the road. Trump is anti-war, but carries a big stick. He has also spoken about reaching an agreement that ensures peace is not simply a cease-fire. Let’s wait and see.

Mars ends retrograde in Cancer on 23 February which is beneficial. In the “zodiac” of the Adityas, Mars in Indra is an indication of making partnerships and agreements that move things forward for the good of all. In the end, all you and I can do is pray and keep our fingers crossed, that good prevails and death and destruction are defeated, not on the battlefield, but at the negotiation table.

    Let’s see what happens.

Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far.
~ Theodore Roosevelt (1858 — 1919), much beloved 26th president of the United States who advocated peace through strength

Love, relationships, and the pursuit of happiness
Norman Rockwell of The Saturday Evening Post fame reminds us of the inherent qualities of love through a depiction of first love. Selfless, innocent, and impactful, first love is a human being’s first glimpse of the power of Love.

“Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself. Love possesses not nor would it be possessed; For love is sufficient unto love.

A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.
    — Mignon McLaughlin (1913 — 1983), American journalist, writer who was noted for three volumes of aphorisms (The Neurotic’s Notebook series)

    Dear Friends;

Perhaps it’s my near religious respect for the innocence of childhood or simply three decades of seeking the inner stillness beyond animal instinct that my fondest memories of Valentine’s Day are not as a star-crossed adult offering a box of chocolates and proclamations of never ending love but as a shy fourth grader slipping a Valentine into the Valentine box of the blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl who sat next to me in class. Receiving a Valentine in return, the warmth I felt through my heart was unexpected, exhilarating, and an awakening — a taste of what I would later discover within my own being.

Most people on the internet who have commented on Mignon McLaughlin’s aphorism (above) attempt to understand its meaning from the perspective of needing to “do” something, the implication being that a marriage (or any relationship) survives if we actively maintain our feelings towards the other as we did in the beginning. This is an impossible task, however, for unless we find the source of love within us to at least some degree, the pain body that got us into the relationship in the first place will ultimately cause the relationship to fail because no person can forever be our answer. Besides, there is also what neuroscientists call sensory referenced suppression, the brain’s way of telling us we have seen something before… the bane of many relationships and no doubt the reason someone coined the phrase “familiarity breeds contempt”. 😅

In Vedic astrology, the answer to everything in your life is found through the Moon’s nodes, Ketu and Rahu. The planets just give more details. Simple, right? Not exactly. The Moon is the mind, and as points of eclipse, the nodes represent the shadow mind, the doors you don’t want to open, the secrets you don’t want revealed — and it begins with Ketu, the South node, your karmic past, the countless subconscious impressions that cause you to put survival over substance. Regarding what is most affected, relationships occupy the top spot.

A simple test: if you want to determine how well you have resolved your past trauma, examine your relationships: who still makes your blood boil? Who do you detest? With who do you find impossible to relate or hold a conversation? Your mother? Father? Spouse? Sibling? Perhaps it’s a particular teller at the bank or the neighbour who always complains about your dog. Our relationships reflect back to us our state of being because we are seeing what we dislike in ourselves. Our relationships hold a mirror before us and ask, “Do you like what you see? Well, do ya?” If we think it is they who need help, understand that it is first you who need help and you can begin by looking at your horoscope’s nodes.

Resolve your Ketu and Rahu and you will resolve all the issues in your life. To actually resolve the areas of life that are constricted (Ketu) and out of control (Rahu) needs courage, a strong will, and perhaps third-party intervention. As an astrologer, I seek to play the third-party role and alert you to what you need to work upon. This forms the fundamental basis of what I seek to convey to you because addressing your Ketu and Rahu is the ONLY way you can resolve the issues in your life. Deal with these and all else falls into place.

Because of the fundamental importance of the Moon’s nodes in your life, I am adding a new 90 minute consultation which focuses on Ketu and Rahu, their signs, the elements associated to their sign, the planets they are influencing directly, and how they are impacting every aspect of your life. Most importantly, I will share what astrology says about befriending your Ketu and Rahu so they act as supports and not blocks. Expect this reading to be blunt. You cannot acquire the things you want in life in a beautiful and harmonious way without addressing Ketu and Rahu and this means tearing down your castle’s walls.

You’ve only got one problem to solve and that’s your Rahu/Ketu axis. There’s no other problems!! Yes, we all have a huge, apparently insurmountable problem to solve — that’s why we’re on Earth. If we didn’t have a huge, nearly insurmountable problem to solve, we would be somewhere else… We’d be on a whole other solar system with a whole other set of planets and a whole different set of rules, but because we’re on this planet, we have a huge problem –each and every one of us — that needs solving.

    19 JAN — 18 FEB

In Greek astrology, Aquarius is depicted as a water bearer standing in the middle of a river emptying water from an earthen jar signifying the Aquarian quality of adding innovation and new ideas to the wellspring of knowledge for the benefit of humanity. The Sun represents truth, dharma, identity, self-worth, embodiment, creative intelligence, ruler, and career and in Aquarius, the opportunity to align your dreams with God’s..

Until the Sun moves into Pisces next week, continue to use this time for self self examination and reflection in regard to creating an emotional connection to your work and activity. What changes can you bring into your activities so you reignite that feeling of “first love”?

    A little more…
Rahu (North node) is in Pisces for the next 17 months or so. Pisces is a water sign and Rahu is asking us to create balanced emotional connection through empathy, compassion, and walking in the shoes of others without assuming their responsibilities. It’s a great time to practice being a “mother to the world.”

    And a little more…
    • Saturn-Venus-Neptune-Rahu (North node) in Pisces
      • All this activity in Pisces can feel overwhelming as Pisces is both a sign of letting go and creative expression. To fulfil your destiny, examine your mind and life circumstances: what can you let go that will allow space into your life such that new ideas and expressions can be embraced leading to more fulfilment.
      • HINT: Venus, Neptune, and Rahu can indicate illusions around money and material comfort — most likely that things are worse than they are. This week’s trick is to use the dispassion of Saturn to keep moving forward one step at a time. Don’t give too much credence to thoughts of worry, confusion, or concern. Instead, do what is in front of you: allow your Saturn to guide you to the next step. And what are your Saturn qualities? Steadfastness, objectivity, perseverance, practicality, determination, and focus. Stay on point and the truth will be revealed through the Sun-Pluto-Mercury conjunction in Aquarius. 🤗
    Moon Planner
Has the Moon got you hurried and harried?

No worries! As a symbol of the feminine quality, the Moon represents your capacity to receive. In this sense, the Moon is about recognising the resources you have available and using them for your benefit.  Too often, we do not recognise what is available around us to make our life more fulfilling. Instead, we get distracted with what is not ours to have and miss out on the available opportunity, experiencing disappointment and disillusionment… or worse, like the poor fellow in the photo.  😄

    This week:

Wednesday, 12 February: Full Moon in Leo (13:53 GMT)
According to mystics like Sadhguru, full moons magnify whatever your state of mind, good or bad. There is science behind this: just as full moons create higher than usual tides on earth, so there is a natural draw of fluids into your brain. Full Moons are a great opportunity to ascend to new emotional heights which can bring on deeper insights and intuition.

The Leo Full Moon can help you make a stronger connection to the world by channeling real emotions into your life situation that are in alignment to your true identity. Taking calculated risks can prove beneficial.

Mother Moon milk: an enlightened guru once shared with me two ways one can use to harness the full moon energy. The first is to simply go somewhere quiet and gaze at the beauty of the full moon for an extended time. Another is to leave some milk in a clear, covered glass overnight in a window sill where it will catch the full moon’s rays. In the morning, consume the milk. Milk is known to absorb energy and is used to purify jewellery of negative energies or unhelpful karmas that may be associated with the jewellery maker or previous owners — or even as a rejuvenator done every six months or so. It is best to use organic whole milk, raw if possible.

      • From 6 January, retrograde Mars is in Cancer, a friendly sign where its propensity to act can bring you success, but only if you keep your emotions in check. Mars is a key and represents the actions you take to unlock the door to your inner wonder, the subconscious where all sorts of interesting goodies, and some baddies, lie. No worries! Mars is your courage and tells you confidently, “Game on!”

Why so many recent aviation incidents?
An unusual spate of airline tragedies have occurred the past few weeks. What’s going on?

Over the past ten days, the following aviation incidents have been catalogued:
    • 28 JAN F35 Alaska; pilot ejected safely
    • 28 JAN Busan, South Korea; caught fire before take-off; all 171 survived; 7 injured
    • 29 JAN Collision in Washington, DC 8:47PM; 67 dead
    • 29 JAN south Sudan; charter flight crashed killing 20 of 21 occupants
    • 31 JAN Medical transport Philadelphia 6:06 PM; 6 dead
    • 7 FEB Small commuter plane crashes in Alaska killing all ten
Without doing a deep dive into the incidents, several factors stand out which have coalesced indicating instability in the elements, namely, the Sun (fire) and Pluto (water) in Aquarius (air), debilitated Mars (fire) in Cancer (water), and Saturn (air) and Rahu (air) in Pisces (water) with Neptune (water). Rahu and Neptune can indicate strong illusion and miscommunication, a likely cause in at least the Washington, DC collision. Also, 28 JAN thru 1 FEB, the Moon was both new and affected by Pluto, a planet that can be associated with death. Mars rules accidents and while in Cancer can indicate taking unhealthy risks.
Are you planning a major event or journey this year?
A Muhūrta consultation can save you a lot of headache

    What is Muhūrta?
Muhūrta is a centuries old branch of Vedic astrology and refers to the methods and methodology of aligning a specific action to the moment that best supports a successful outcome. Since not all actions seek the same results (e.g. winning a battle, getting married, scheduling a surgery), each moment will support outcomes for some actions and not for others. Think of a Muhūrta consultation as an in depth, very specific, weather report. Just as you would not plan a picnic on a day of 100% rain, so you would not plan an important event on a day when the energy on that day is counter to your goals. A Muhūrta is like having the wind at your back.

    Kala
Kala is Sanskrit for time. According to the Vedas, Kala unfolds in repeating cycles within cycles from the infinitesimally small to the incomprehensibly large. We directly experience many of these cycles such as the four seasons and the waxing and waning of the Moon as it orbits the Earth. We also experience these cycles as birth, youth, adulthood, old age, and death, only to relive this cycle in a new body, exposed to a new variety of experiences based upon our karmic past.

    Karmic Impetus
Each moment of time holds a “karmic impetus” characterised by qualities which can be ascertained from the position of the planets, stars, and most significantly, the Moon. The Moon (mind) reflects the light of our inner Sun (Self) and links the physical world to God. Thus, when we wish to take action, we can look towards the characteristics at play in the Moon according to your horoscope parameters to determine the most opportune time to begin a particular action. Doing so allows you to exert some control over that action’s outcome. This method is Muhūrta.

What will you receive from a Muhūrta consultation?
You will receive a written report with tables indicating a series of auspicious dates and times to begin your project, event, etc. according to your personal horoscope. Only auspicious dates and times are given, ranked by score and sorted by date.

    Some examples:

    • Signing important contracts
    • Starting a business
    • Getting married
    • Traveling
    • Scheduling important tasks like docotr or dental appointments, surgery, etc.
You can receive a Muhūrta for anything you consider important enough where you want to “start on the right foot”.

    Muhūrta Consultation
£30 for each 30 day analysis for one goal, e.g., examining 10 MAR thru 10 APR for best days and times to start a business; offered as a PDF report. Concessions available.
Special: £75 for any 3-month examination per goal (a savings of £15) — need not be consecutive months

    Dear Friend;

This year-end, Winter Solstice issue highlights Christmas and the Christian tradition with a poem by Meister Ekhart, a 14th century Christian mystic whose teachings ran afoul of church authorities. This issue also marks the first in a series of offerings illuminating a period beginning in 2025 that has the potential to find the world in great turmoil. My heartfelt intention is to help you navigate through this period in the best possible way by offering you guidance each month according to the yogic sciences and astrology. In every storm, there is always opportunity, and it is my wish and my blessing that you embrace this opportunity wholeheartedly and with great enthusiasm.

    Happy holidays,

     Sagittarius to Capricorn: December’s Sun
Embracing your infinite nature through the fire of Love

The zodiacal wheel beginning with Aries and culminating in Pisces is symbolic of our evolution from a ‘naked’, fearful soul ‘cast out from Eden’ (Aries/Taurus) to an enlightened being bringing good works upon the earth (Aquarius/Pisces). Whereas Scorpio denotes spiritual awakening, Sagittarius (November 22 through December 21) represents the stage where the individual feels a pressing need to answer the fundamental question at the base of all spiritual traditions, who am I? In recent years, much energy has been expended upon supporting and giving importance to our limited identity at the expense of our true nature and society’s wellbeing. In truth, we are made in the image of God, infinite and of boundless joy. In truth we are all part and parcel of the same universal principle. Though compassion begins with embracing everyone without prejudice, only through our divine nature will we experience our sameness and fully appreciate the beauty of our differences.

Just as ore is placed in the fire to burn the dross and leave pure gold, so are we placed in the fire of Sagittarius through the spiritual process until nothing but our true nature remains. Though we must act in order to work out karmic tendencies, we can do so with the understanding that our work, relationships, and daily tasks are only vehicles to take us deeper into the realisation that the source of all and everything we wish for can only be found within the subtler dimensions of our being. As a great saint from India once urged, “Always have a hand on God even as you keep the other in the world.”

This month, allow the purifying fire of Sagittarius to rise up from within and illuminate the stillness of Capricorn. In truth, you are a ‘piece of Life’ made in the image of God, not as a body, but as unlimited possibility. 😉

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails” (1 Corinthians 13:4-8).

The Significance of the Winter Solstice

In ancient cultures across the world, the winter solstice was a time of great significance. Marking the “longest night” of the year, the winter solstice heralds the beginning of the Sun’s northward journey in Capricorn. Yogi, mystic, and New York Times best-selling author Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev explains its importance:

People who have been spiritually aware have always identified this transition as a possibility for human consciousness to blossom. Particularly, the first half of (this northward journey) until the equinox in March is a period where the maximum amount of grace is available. The human system is more receptive to grace at (this) time than any other. History clearly indicates that the maximum number of people have attained (enlightenment) in this phase of the sun in the Northern Hemisphere.

During the southern run (June thru December), what is below the anahata (heart chakra) can be purified very easily. During the northern run (December thru June), what is above the anahata can be worked much more easily. That is why in terms of sadhana, (the southern run) is for purification. (The northern run) is for enlightenment. This is the period of receptivity, of grace and enlightenment, of attainment of the ultimate. This is the time to harvest… human potential.

The human body, if brought to a certain level of intensity and sensitivity, is a cosmos by itself. Everything that happens in the external sphere, in a subtle way, manifests in the body. It is happening to everyone, it is just that most people do not notice this. But a more organised and purposeful rearrangement of the human mechanism could be done if one becomes conscious of the external movement and aligns that with the movement that is happening within the human system. If you want this body of flesh and bone to imbibe the nature of the cosmic body, understanding and being in tune with this movement… is very essential.

Are you holding on to past or possibility?

The insanity of the collective egoic mind, amplified by science and technology, is rapidly taking our species to the brink of disaster. Evolve or die: that is our only choice now.

    Eckhart Tolle

    When the storm comes…

That the current positions of the stars and planets reflect the present state of affairs of life on earth is of little value in and of itself without the context of the past. Where we were shapes where we are and where we are determines our future. In this sense, understanding the past is ultimately about creating a better future, a future that is unfolding now, in the present, through our choices.

In Elemental Astrology, the task at hand is to gain awareness into the subconscious patterns that shape our future so we can make better choices in the present.

Considering today’s issues through the lens of an archaeologist/astrologer

First Look: Saturn, Solar Flares, and Us

Beginning in 2025, astrological indications and astronomical events will converge signalling an increased likelihood of difficulty for both individuals and the global community. These indications relate to 1) Saturn moving into an inimical sign, Aries, an event that happens every 28 years, and 2) increased sunspot activity affecting the emotional sensitivity of human beings.

Underscoring the sense of urgency, bestselling author Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev has recently spoken of this time as one of great possibility or great challenge.  In an article last year, Sadhguru observed how, according to NASA, we have entered into a cycle of heightened sunspot activity which can profoundly affect the psychological and physical processes of a human being. This is because increased sunspot activity increases electromagnetic radiation which in turn affects the earth’s magnetic field — and, thus, anything on earth that is “electrical” including the human brain…

    When I Was the Forest

    Meister Eckhart (1260 – 1328)

When I was the stream, when I was the
forest, when I was still the field,
when I was every hoof, foot,
    fin and wing, when I
    was the sky
    itself,

no one ever asked me did I have a purpose, no one ever
wondered was there anything I might need,
    for there was nothing
    I could not
    love.

It was when I left all we once were that
the agony began, the fear and questions came,
and I wept, I wept. And tears
    I had never known
    before.

So I returned to the river, I returned to
the mountains. I asked for their hand in marriage again,
I begged—I begged to wed every object
and creature, and when they accepted,
God was ever present in my arms.
    And He did not say,
    “Where have you
    been?”

For then I knew my soul—every soul—
    has always held
    Him.

One of the most influential of the Christian mystics, Meister Ekhart preached and wrote in German for the benefit of the common person. He was later tried for heresy by the Roman Catholic Church for espousing unorthodox views like this: “The eye through which I see God is the same eye through which God sees me; my eye and God’s eye are one eye, one seeing, one knowing, one love” (Sermons of Meister Ekhart).

    December’s Frivolous Frolic
A retelling of an old (Texas) Aggie joke

An unexpected storm came upon two Congressmen driving back to Washington, DC. for an important vote. The rain was so fierce, all the bridges across the Potomac had washed away. Parking near the water’s edge, the two of them got out and surveyed the flooded river.

    “There’s no way across,” observe
d the Democrat. “We’ll have to raise taxes to build another bridge.”

The Republican shook his head, “That will take forever,” he said, adding, “but, I have a solution.” Withdrawing a flashlight (torch) from his pocket, he said, “I will shine this light across the river and you can walk across on its beam.”
    Republican Democrat Bob hope

The Democrat looked at him incredulously, “Do you take me for a fool? You’ll switch the light off when I am halfway across!”

The Republican thought for a moment, then stuck the light in the crook of a tree with its beam pointing toward the opposite bank of the river. “There! Now we can both cross together.”

“A perfect bipartisan solution, ” said the Democrat, beaming with delight.  🤗

    Yogi’s Corner
Real life stories from David’s journal…

One of the great ironies of human behaviour is how we quickly judge others with very little consideration of our own affairs. It is what Jesus expressed when he asked the sanctimonious crowd who had gathered to carry out a sentence of death, “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone!” What we rail against most loudly is often what we have hiding in the shadows of our own mind. It’s as if we subconsciously believe we will stamp out our own shortcomings by condemning others. In this day of social media anonymity and the passing of the buck, the lack of accountability has become the standard way of doing business. From YouTube trolls to Facebook Fakes, we hide behind aliases, fake profiles, and faceless commentary.

I am reminded of a manager at the ashram I lived in upstate New York who had fallen asleep on the late night shuttle ride from JFK airport in New York City. Two and a half hours later, he woke up at the ashram and groggily asked the driver if this was the shuttle, meaning the shuttle to the dorms. The relief driver, thinking he meant the return ride to JFK airport, said ‘yes’ whereupon the manager quickly fell back to sleep. Two and half hours later, he wakes up back at JFK. When told there was no need to pay for the return trip back to the ashram since it was an honest mistake, the manager would not hear of it. “If I don’t pay for my mistakes,” he told the driver, “who will?”
