Neptune in Aries
Issue 13 Volume 8          31 March 2025
“The point is, art never stopped a war and never got anybody a job. That was never its function. Art cannot change events. But it can change people. It can affect people so that they are changed… because people are changed by art – enriched, ennobled, encouraged – they then act in a way that may affect the course of events… by the way they vote, they behave, the way they think.”
― Leonard Bernstein (1918 – 1990) was an American conductor, composer, pianist, music educator, author, and humanitarian.

Dear Friend;

Guess what happened in 1861 and has not happened again… until yesterday!!

Neptune entered Aries!! 🥳

As one of the outer planets, it takes a rather long time for Neptune to go through the zodiac — 165 years to be exact. Imagine experiencing 40 year seasons; nice for spring, summer, and autumn, but that 40 year winter might get a bit old after a while. Nevertheless, considering the world has not seen Neptune in Aries since 1875 when it left Aries and entered Taurus, it’s probably a good idea to take a closer look at what to expect.

Neptune was first discovered in 1846 at the height of the Romantic movement which saw the West shift away from the ordered reason of the Enlightenment to a more subjective, emotional, and spiritual embrace of the world beginning in the late 18th century. Neptunes’s discovery during this period is an interesting “coincidence” as Neptune is the planet that relates to emotion, subjectivity, creativity, magic, fantasy, spirituality, and the hidden aspects of life. This shift can be seen through the change in art and philosophy of Europe and America during this period from rationalism to idealism. The image above by Bierstadt, for example, is a great example of how artists were representing nature more subjectively with the intention of emoting strong feelings of expansion and otherworldliness.

What does Neptune’s grand entrance into Aries mean for you?

The outer planets represent within you the force behind the blossoming of your consciousness, from limited to unlimited, from finite to infinite. Uranus is the power of the Moon through the nodes that is behind your blossoming authenticity. Neptune is the power of Jupiter behind your blossoming unconditional Love. Pluto is the power of the Sun behind the blossoming of your true identity, your God-consciousness.

As for Neptune, many astrologers link Neptune to the collective consciousness which is certainly a valid perspective. However, for students of the yogic sciences, we understand the collective consciousness as the one consciousness. Though both views are essentially saying the same thing, there is a subtle difference which may be easier to practice, i.e., everything I see is a part of me rather than everything I see is a part of us. The former points to your higher self, the Self that is beyond differentiation and separation and which is by nature connected to everything else.

Aries is the sign of vision, possibility, and potential. It relates to taking the lead and gathering your resources to ensure a positive outcome. Neptune in Aries is like a broom and can sweep aside false ideals that keep change from happening. What kind of broom are you using to sweep? Is it one made for the job or are you indiscriminately using a broom that is sweeping away the baby with the bath water?

The last time Neptune was in Aries was from 1861 to 1875, a period marked by social upheaval including the American Civil War, the rise of the women’s suffrage movement in both the US and Europe, and the emancipation of 23 million serfs in Russia. There are many indications that we are experiencing significant change in the world that will be fuelled to a greater degree while Neptune is in Aries through 2039.

What will this period mean for you?

While the outer planets are ultimately regarded as benevolent since they are pushing us towards our true Self, it is our resistance that creates turmoil and suffering. Resistance arises from ignorance and only a deeper awareness has the power to cut through the eons of drama and trauma that we hold in our subconscious energy channels. Thus, when an outer planet is pushing us towards a greater experience, we may experience the push as difficulty until we let go the need to control. It is not that we are relinquishing responsibility; rather, we are allowing our higher Self to do its job.

Neptune, for example, as the force behind Jupiter’s unconditional Love, can indicate having our attachments “swept away” as a means to teach us to be inclusive in our love and not exclusive. One of the most common vehicles Neptune uses is relationships. Going through a Neptune period that activates any relationship planets or houses can indicate a loss of one relationship and the birth of another. Even as a soul with limited understanding, this experience forces open our grip on one person (and one love) and makes us available to another. Ideally, of course, we would use this experience to become more anchored in universal love. For most, however, this experience is a very small step to unconditional love and a reason why it can take countless lifetimes to evolve even a little when left to our own devices.

Looking on the bright side: Neptune is that part of you that loves mystery, the unseen, what’s hidden and spiritual. It an aspect of your creativity and for this reason can really help artists, writers, philosophers, and spiritual seekers. This is especially true if you have Sun, Jupiter, or Moon, in Aries.

in the shadows: Because of latent unhealthy desires and proclivities, Neptune can indicate fooling ourselves and falling for the allure of others or of a promising situation that is not what it seems to be. The guard against any of Neptune’s seeming trickery is to always take the high road, i.e., to set your intentions for the good of the world. Doing so activates your Jupiter energy and protects you from the illusion that Neptune can signify. Still, in regard to the world, you must strive to educate yourself beyond your conditioned autopilot.

Into the dark pit: We are at risk of falling prey to our dark side when we refuse to acknowledge the shadow mind and understand how sneaky the ego can be in its desire to express itself. The ego is where our fear rules the roost. If we allow it to dominate, then Neptune’s greatness at showing where the source of Love exists in our heart will be twisted into an illusory embrace of what is not. Then we can find ourselves drawn to false gurus, nonsensical agendas, and even the dark side of the occult.

Much of the world news is dominated by a victim mentality. Instead of promoting responsible action, we are lead to believe that the fault lies everywhere but in ourselves. This is absolutely false and no spiritual giant from Christ to Meister Ekhart to Ramana Maharshi to Sadhguru and Ekhart Tolle has ever indicated we should look for answers anywhere but in ourselves. They promote compassion, but never pity. Compassion arises from love; pity arises from guilt.

The coming years will show us where we are off in our Neptune consciousness, especially through world events. Are we holding on so tightly that we no longer can determine what is real? Then we need a wake up call because we will be unable to see that we need to change. We will think that what is up is down, and what is right, is wrong.

Fortunately, Neptune is not only a great friend but an early riser who loves to give wake up calls.

Sun in Aries

21 MAR — 19 APR

An important aspect of the Sun is right action (dharma), i.e., right action at the right time. It is right action that burns away the darkness of the night each morning, warms the land, and brings forth the conditions for life. In Aries, a sign ruled by Mars, the Sun becomes exalted and is welcomed by Mars, the planet of directed will and focused attention. Aries is a fire sign that creates a conducive environment for the fire of the Sun. In Aries, the Sun enhances leadership potential, career, rules and laws, and vision. In Aries, the Sun’s innate capacity as a ruler allows it to rule over its kingdom with honour and integrity.

Fun Fact: Zodiac comes from the Greek zodiakos (kyklos) which literally means “circle of little animals” and is one indication of how astrological knowledge was shared between the cultures of Greece and India beginning in the time of Alexander the Great. For thousands of years before the Greeks, the Vedic culture used a 12-part circle which represented 12 aspects of the Sun (Adityas) and offer us some fascinating insights not gleaned from the Greeks.

The Aditya that corresponds to Aries is Aryama which means friend, companion, and life-partner who protects through noble cause, chivalry, and duty. Aryama provides the warmth that nurtures institutions and societal structures through just laws and sense of duty.

Neptune in Aries!
  • Neptune in Aries 2025 — 2039; first time since 1861 — 1875
    • Neptune takes 165 years to go through the zodiac. Like Uranus and Pluto, Neptune’s slow journey through the signs adds colour and highlights which can have a subtle, but significant impact.

Do you want to be great? Pick up a broom and sweep the floor.
~ Mother Teresa (1910 – 1997) Catholic saint and Nobel laureate known for her missionary work with the poor in India

No disrespect towards Mother Teresa, but I will add, “Do you want to be greater? Take a broom and sweep your heart.

Neptune symbolises the power within you to turn conditional love into the all-embracing, unconditional love of God. It’s not easy to do; this is why we need help. If we are very fortunate, help comes in the form of the guru/teacher who knows exactly what we need. The guru is the loving parent who guides us towards the goal as quickly and efficiently as possible. If we have no guru, then grace comes to us as our karma and forces us to either walk the razor’s edge… or fall off. Through trial and tribulation and cuts and scrapes, we eventually realise our infinite splendour.

Against all our cries of protest and the gnashing of teeth, God compassionately offers what we need to be free from suffering. Neptune is the God within helping us to become established in the one, truly inclusive love. Considering Neptune is in Aries for 14 years, you will get a lot of practice to hone this connection. Expect at least some of this to come from societal strife and confrontation. Aries is fire and fire means purification.

Practice Run
Neptune has just entered Aries so it will slowly move through the first degree of Aries through 10 June, then continue forward until it goes retrograde 5 July, re-enter Pisces on 22 October, then enter Aries again on 26 January, 2026. What all this means is that this year is a practice run for Neptune, a time when you can discover some of the ways it is influencing your chart and where in life Neptune is seeking to help you lower your resistance and embrace unconditional love.

Self-study
I encourage you to study your own horoscope. Knowledge is power. To help you along the way, I’ve outlined some simple steps below that follow the principles of Vedic astrology:

  1. Obtain a copy of your horoscope using the tropical zodiac. NOTE: For those of you who opted for the eBook add-on after an astrology session with me, there will be a copy of your horoscope in your booklet. Otherwise, contact me and I will send you a copy of your horoscope free of charge.
  2. Look at your horoscope to determine if your rising sign or any planets are in Aries.
  3. Use the tables below to get a quick idea of the areas of your life that will be impacted by Neptune over the next 14 years. The impact increases as Neptune gets closer to any planets in Aries, especially < 5 degrees. Because Neptune moves so slowly, it can impact a planet for several months or even years.
Some basic significations of the Planets
  • Sun: physical health, public image, career, father/authority
  • Moon: needs, emotions, materiality, mother
  • Mercury: communication, business deals, school work, investigation

  • Jupiter: unconditional love, children, finances, wealth, guru, spiritual inclination
  • Saturn: construction, disease, chronic illness, death, government, karma
  • Ketu (South node): the past, constriction, stillness, insight, intuition, where you have been

Some basic significations of the Houses: count from your rising sign (ascendent)
  • First House (Rising sign or Ascendant): personality, physical appearance, health, ego, self, body

  • Third House: performance and performing arts, writing, siblings, neighbours, short journeys
  • Fourth House: home, family, vehicles, cemeteries, emotional security, mother
  • Fifth House: creativity, romance, children, education, spiritual practice
  • Sixth House: health, work, service, enemies, disease, illness
  • Seventh House: partnerships, marriage, business relationships, sexuality
  • Eighth House: secrets, transformation, inheritance, longevity, psychology, accidents, chronic disease, mysticism, unearned income, financial gain from partnerships
  • Ninth House: philosophy, higher education, travel, ethics, father, guru
  • Tenth House: career, public life, social status, government, authority
  • Eleventh House: long term goals, friendships, income, community, networking
  • Twelfth House: losses, solitude, isolation, spiritual liberation, places of confinement, sexual pleasure

I am purposefully keeping this very simple so you can begin to contemplate your unique situation. It’s also important to understand we humans are not black and white but grey. At times we are selfish, at other times we are selfless. The inherent chance in an eclipse is not to beat yourself up, but to gain a deeper understanding of what motivates you to do what you do then take positive action.

We were born into this world precisely because we do not have all the answers. This creates a subconscious fear that arises only because we believe ourselves to be weak. This distrust in ourself puts us in survival mode. When we become aware of the potential energy within us, we can better arrange our life so that our energy can be guided toward a constructive outcome. This is an internal process; not an outward one, though from our internal expansion, our outer circumstances improve.
