Who am I?

This question has been asked as long as humans have looked within themselves for answers to their existence. Regarding the heavens at night, you get a sense of the smallness of your life here on earth, just a speck in a cosmos of unimaginable breadth and width. And, yet, every experience and feeling is at play within you, no matter the outer circumstance. From absolute joy to utter despair, the human experience encompasses everything imaginable.

So, who are you? This month, focus on bringing out your “true” identity. Far too often,  we exist in our life as a make-believe character, someone created from past life compulsions and present day conditioning. If you strip off this mask then who is it that remains? 

As with all processes, especially internal ones, transformation takes time. This month, simply spend more time with yourself in quiet reflection: go for a walk in the park, along the beach or in the woods. Try sitting on a chair, spine comfortably erect with your feet flat on the floor. Close your eyes and rest your hands lightly on your thighs, palms facing upwards. Now, ask yourself, “Who am I?” Breathe in deep and breathe out long. Hold this question in your mind or you can repeat it with your breath.

What this simple practice does is help you to be present with yourself. Don’t look for an answer; instead, be with your experience. Be attentive to the processes in your own body. Watch your breath, how it fills your lungs then escapes. Feel your heart beating, not just in your chest; you can feel it in your cheeks and in your forehead, too. Most of all, be with your feelings. What emotion is there to greet you?

Use April to take steps to manifest something you desire, whether an inner transformation or an outer goal or wish. As with last month, spend time on the creation process rather than on the expected result, whether income or some other material gain. It is the process, itself, that holds the key to fulfillment. Through expectation, we dilute the available energy we have to bring something into fruition. Instead, let the process consume your attention.

One suggestion: start out small. It takes practice, consistent practice, to develop the mindset to break through those self-imposed walls you built eons ago and manifest your deepest desires. Instead of concentrating on the biggest desire, work towards an aspect. Instead of dreaming to gain a pay raise, for example, simply hold your work in your awareness and allow the creative process to unfold and reveal ways in which you can make your work more alive, more vibrant and enriching for others.

In such a field, the seeds of life altering events are planted. 😉

Currently, we are experiencing a natural flow from community and group involvement to more individually focused intentions revolving around the creative process. Spring is always a time to reap the benefits of what we have learned during the autumn and winter months. For some, these past several months have simply been a period of making amends with the past, unconsciously paying off past life debts and rectifying the karmic ledger. For others, those who were able to consciously embrace its potential, this was a time of focused intensity in preparation for the spring.

Now spring has arrived. In order to take advantage of this period of growth and rebirth, be ready to let go of the attachments to wealth and status you have accumulated over eons of living. You may  incur additional expenses during this period or fail to achieve short-term financial goals. Have patience. This period is about letting go of old ideas about wealth and status so that you can see more clearly what steps to take in order to prosper.

Attachment arises from past conditioning. Attachment does not help you achieve your goals. On the contrary, attachment is an obstacle to achieving what you want because it clouds your perception. Our parents, teachers, priests and friends have all contributed their opinions to make something false seem true, something unreal, real. Now is the time to look for yourself to see where you are going, making sure it is where you want to go.

During this time, let go of your worries and concerns regarding wealth, income and position in your community. Instead, throw yourself into the creative process. By creative process we mean that there is a powerful urge inside you that wants to express itself authentically. This urge may bring you into situations that take courage but they are areas your deeper self is pushing you to go. Along the way, be careful not to run over those who are really trying to help you. This urge is fueled by your inner fire and out of control it can create enemies and bad feelings.

This spring, there is support to look at the different aspects of your life from a different angle and to take focused action of benefit to you and others. It is a matter of applying your creative intelligence to the different aspects of your life. In relationships, look at your interactions from the perspective of the other. In health, consider new routines that would add vigor to your body. In your career, be clear where the trajectory is; do you want to go where it is taking you? If not, revisit your “road map” and take another route. Just like when traveling, one road, usually the most travelled one, can be uninteresting and tedious while another route, perhaps only a few miles away, can be vibrant and full of adventure.

Your ability to lead is enhanced this spring. Within your circle, take the lead. Show others, through your example, how they can improve their lives. The season is yours to enjoy. Just as the natural world is experiencing a rebirth, so can you.
