  • Spring Equinox: A Chance for Balance

The spring equinox, a time when light and darkness are in balance, is a reminder that the forces of nature within us can be in perfect harmony. This is especially true for our masculine and feminine energies. Typically, one or the other dominates within us. In reality, however, when these qualities are in perfect balance within us, we become balanced human beings.

According to Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, yogi, mystic and NY Times best-selling author, having the masculine and feminine qualities balanced within us, regardless of the sex of our body, makes a balanced human being.

All physical manifestations can only happen between polarities — positive–negative, masculine–feminine, Shiva–Shakti, man–woman. The moment we create a divide between the polarities, judgments about perceived superiority and inferiority between the two arise. Out of these judgments, many layers of confusion, ugliness, and exploitation have occurred. Male and female are just manifestations of either the masculine or the feminine being present in an enhanced way. The fact that you are sitting here as a woman does not mean that your father does not exist within you, and the same applies to men and their mothers, of course. If you recognise this truth and nurture both the masculine and the feminine within you so that they are on an even keel, you will be a balanced human being. If you only nurture the masculine, the crassness of machismo will find expression. If you only nurture the feminine, an excessive sense of decorativeness and emotion will find expression.

During this natural time of balance, seek balance in your own life. Pay attention to how you are in your day-to-day interactions with people: family, friends, work colleagues or strangers. Life, itself, is the greatest teacher.

  • Star Report: November 2018

This month a significant change has taken place affecting our lives at a very profound level. The nodes of the moon crossed from one sign to another, an event of great importance, especially when considering that the nodes stay in each sign for aproximately one year and a half.

The south node, Ketu, traveled from Sagittarius to Capricorn. Ketu represents our past and indicates what we use to protect ourselves against what we fear the most. This fear makes us uptight about the areas Ketu influences and so we wrap our arms even tighter around that which we should learn to let go, currently being represented by Capricorn.

Capricorn is the sign where we become in-tune with our deeper self. It is the sign where we receive our “marching orders” in proceeding with the rest of our life. From an enlightened perspective, Capricorn is where one hears the command of God and readies himself for action.

The tendency, however, as Ketu transits Capricorn, is to rely too much on organization and methodology, on detachment and perseverance, at any cost. However, as an indicator of the past, Ketu tells us that by doing so, we will meet with resistance and obstacles. Now is not the time to rely so much on structure and detachment; rather, we want to bring in more emotion, love and compassion into our daily life as indicated by Ketu’s opposite, Rahu, the north node.

Rahu’s move into Cancer this month indicates a need for us to embrace our deeper, emotional self. Cancer is a feminine sign and embraces the qualities of motherhood, nurturing and compassion. As the fourth sign, Cancer is where our emotions are expressed and where we find contentment and stability. As such, the next year and a half will find us drawn into situations that require a strong connection to our emotional self. Being stoic, unemotional, dry and aloof is not the best approach during this time. Compassion, love, sensitivity and being unencumbered to express ourselves emotionally will serve us much better.

This is not to say we should lose our inner stability. Emotions expressed purely and from a place of groundedness will be supportive in our interactions with others. Unbridled emotions, like a herd of wild horses, will make the way difficult to see. Rahu is a jungle we must cross through and though we may bet lost, it is not in our best interest.

  • Why Astrology?

Astrology’s primary intention is to provide you with a baseline from which to make better choices. At its core, Elemental Astrology reveals the impetus from one lifetime to the next so you can “go with the flow” and follow the path that will bring you the greatest joy, success and fulfillment. In doing so, you will learn to root out those hidden,  self-defeating tendencies through right action allowing you to welcome success into your life.

You may wonder why it is necessary to know about a painful past, a past you don’t even remember. In one word, compassion; that is, compassion for yourself. If, for example, an astrology consultation reveals that your unresolved pain is making it difficult for you to realize your full capacity to create income, the first thing this does is to allow you to breathe easier. Too often, we go through life feeling like fate is against us, don’t we? The wall between you and what you desire seems to be insurmountable. Everything you do to break through that wall ends in frustration. Knowing there is a reason behind this difficulty besides “bad luck” or your shortcomings helps you realize that you can do something to let that pain go, that you can “take back your life.”

And the way you take back your life is by following the blueprint for success shown by your astrological chart. This blueprint is open ended. It is a process of personal growth and unfoldment. By knowing the fundamental forces behind this incarnation, you can follow the path of least resistance, the areas of life that will bring you the most fulfillment in the quickest way possible.

This path comes with its own set of challenges, of course, because it is fueled by your desires. Desire is a very powerful force but difficult to control. It can move mountains, but sometimes the mountain should not be moved; sometimes it should be climbed or simply regarded and accepted for what it is.

Not all desires take you where you want to go. Some make it harder for you to achieve the success you seek. For this reason, discrimination is needed. Discrimination, in simple terms, is the capacity to know what will take you where you want to go and what will not. When you see the path clearly, you are able to choose the best path for you and avoid choices that leave you feeling depleted, de-energized and defeated.

Knowing yourself is the magic pill you seek. In reality, the path shown by astrology is made up of your deepest desire, the desire to be free from all suffering. In the heart of every human being is the longing to know who they are, where they came from and to where it is they are going. Though you don’t always realize it, everything you do, every desire you wish to fulfill is an attempt to answer these questions.

Why astrology? To help you answer those questions.

  • Spring Into Love!

Flowers rising from the snowUnderstanding the Masculine and Feminine in Relationships

When you are in relationship with another human being, whether you realize it or not, the masculine and feminine qualities within each of you is in constant interaction. How they interact will in large part determine the success of your relationship. This is true whether you are relating to your spouse, a friend, a business associate or a relative. All relationships, at a fundamental level, are simply the play of the masculine and feminine qualities.

Boiled down to their essence, the masculine quality is the capacity to do right action at the right time while the feminine quality is the capacity to receive action in order to create. Although every human being has both masculine and feminine qualities, in most relationships one partner will play the masculine role while the other takes on the feminine qualities.

In man/woman relationships, the man typically takes on the masculine role while the woman embraces the feminine. When in perfect balance, the man acts and the woman receives this action, using it to manifest a certain dynamic from which she creates an emotionally secure environment in which they can thrive. This does not at all mean that a woman should not initiate action and a man is incapable of receiving, rather, at a fundamental level, the forces within each must be existing in harmony.

For example, a business woman needs the capacity to make decisions and take action or she may be overwhelmed by strong egos. However, she makes decisions without losing her innate connection to her humanity and her intuitive capacity. Likewise, a male doctor needs to be in touch with his compassion and emotional side otherwise his bedside manner becomes dry and uncaring. Even so, at no point does he relinquish his ability to take decisive action. An indecisive doctor is a doctor no one wants.

Elemental astrology offers a simple technique by which to determine how well you are harmonizing the masculine/feminine energies within you. In a nutshell, if these energies are not in proper balance within you and are not offset by your partner, discord, disagreement and friction will arise between you.

Using the example of the relationship between a man and woman, ideally the man should express his masculine qualities in correct proportion to his feminine side allowing his gentler side to guide his actions. The opposite would be true for the woman. In such a relationship, the man gives to the woman through right action and does so at the right time. The woman receives this action, guides it along a proper path then uses it to create a healthy environment within which they can both prosper.

If, however, the man is not embracing his masculine side fully, it will be difficult for him to perform right action at the right time. When a man’s feminine side dominates, it becomes corrupted leading to a tendency for him to become indecisive or unaware of what needs to be done. Similarly, for a woman; when her masculine side dominates, she becomes opinionated, domineering and rash.

If a woman who is harmonizing her energies properly gets into a relationship with a man who is not fully expressing the masculine quality, she will experience disappointment. In short, she will easily see what needs to be done long before he does. This becomes even more challenging if this woman is expressing too much masculinity. In such a case, the relationship would prove to be quite volatile and difficult to sustain in the long term.

How we harmonize the masculine/feminine energies within us is one of the most important concepts in astrology. In over 25 years of reading charts for literally hundreds of clients, I have discovered that the masculine/feminine balance, alone, reveals the fundamental quality of the relationship. For this reason, I always offer a masculine/feminine analysis in all my readings. This is especially true when doing a compatibility reading, a reading in which the charts of two people are examined in regards to their capacity to have a successful relationship.

If you are in a relationship or considering one, you may find it very helpful to find out not only how these energies are interacting between you and your partner/spouse but also within you as an individual. Most people have at least a partial imbalance in their system and knowing how it influences your relationships can help you turn a troubled one into a thriving opportunity.

  • The Vernal Equinox:
    An Opportunity for Balance

The Vernal EquinoxFor everyone north of the equator, spring arrives on 20 March. From an astronomical point of view, this day marks the day when the sun crosses the earth’s equator moving north after spending the autumn and winter months south of the equator. This day also marks one of two times of the year (the other being the autumn equinox in September) in which day and night are more or less equal depending upon where you live. It is this “balance” between night and day that creates a special opportunity in which we can rise above self-created imbalances that keep us from living the life we want.

In the realm of spirituality, balance is one of the most fundamental requisites for living a joyful and successful life. Without balance, our physical and emotional health suffers. When we “lose our center”, our physical well being is upset and we experience dis-ease. In our minds, we become unstable and emotionally insecure such that small events and normally easily managed life situations cause us irritation, worry or stress. On the other hand, when we have inner balance, we are able to meet every situation with equanimity and skill.

What does it mean to be in balance? At a core level, balance is simply a state of equanimity. Practically, this means our masculine and feminine natures are perfectly in balance. As a man or a woman, our tendency is to over-emphasize the quality that matches the sex of our body, creating a state of imbalance. In their primary expressions, masculine qualities include action, service and logic while the feminine qualities emphasize creation, reception and emotions. Both are necessary in order to live a fulfilling life. However, because we are sentient beings with free will and the capacity to make choices, we tend to over analyze our lives creating an imbalance. A man becomes too focused on taking action and ignores his capacity to receive or feel emotional depth. A woman can rely too much on her emotions and ignore her capacity for reason and taking right action. As a man or woman, it is natural to express ourselves accordingly but not at the expense of our inner peace.

The equinoxes are opportunities to bring back that balance. On this day, see yourself as not simply a man or a woman but as a conscious “piece of Life” full of unlimited possibility. See yourself as having both the power to create and the power to take action, to give and to receive, to sustain your life in the best possible way. Within you is the power to create and maintain existence, your existence. Within this power is the capacity to experience life in the most beautiful and invigorating way for in truth, you are not just a man or a woman. You are much more. Seize this day and discover your “other half”. ?
