    Coronavirus: Opportunity in Disguise?

Several of you have been asking about the novel coronavirus in regard to astrology. Of course, to understand the specific energies at play for an individual, your birth chart needs to be examined in terms of past life karmas, current health status and what tendencies are active in your current life situation. Nevertheless, by looking at the current positions of the slow moving planets, ie, Saturn, Jupiter and the nodes of the Moon, we can gain clarity as to humanity as a whole.

Those of you who have had readings with me know that the nodes of the moon are the most significant aspects of a chart. The South node reveals where we need awareness in our lives in order to become “unstuck” and experience more success and joy, while the North node reveals the conscious action that will bring that awareness.

Currently, the South node is in Capricorn, the sign that is fundamentally about a human being’s capacity to listen to the higher self. Without awareness, the South node indicates delusion, where, through tradition, habitual thinking, or wrong understanding about our true nature, we perceive the world in a way that is false. This falsehood creates fear and the actions we undertake are predominantly those we think will avoid what it is we fear. Opposite the South node in Capricorn is the North node in Cancer which represents those actions. Without awareness, our actions become an emotional reaction to what we fear.

In other words, current astrological indications are telling us that the tendency for human beings at this moment in time is to be deaf to the voice of their higher self, their voice of intuition and insight. This creates fear and shows up in the North node in Cancer as panic, hysteria, worry, etc.

This is further exacerbated by two events currently underway: Saturn leaving Capricorn and entering Aquarius and Jupiter’s transit of Capricorn which began last December. Saturn in Capricorn indicates the capacity to be grounded, real, unemotional and practical. Though it does well in Aquarius, too, in Capricorn Saturn indicates human beings have at least some foothold in stability. Jupiter, a planet of optimism and expansion, is constricted in Capricorn and the association with the South node means pessimism and overreaction.

By the end of April, the nodes leave their current signs. As astronomical points that move “backwards”, this means the South node will move into Sagittarius as the North node enters Gemini. This is significant for everyone on earth and will certainly indicate a change to the current situation. Sagittarius is the sign of purification and sacrifice indicating a need to let go of certain comforts and conveyances though most people will be resistant to sacrificing their comforts in order to bring about real change. Likewise, the North node in Gemini indicates a tendency to overuse logic and reasoning and to get lost in the details of a situation by losing sight of the whole picture. During this period, discriminating between what is real and unreal, between what is helpful and unhelpful, will be necessary to analyse available options in the most beneficial way.

    In a nutshell:

    Through April, our conditioned mind:

    • Makes it challenging to hear the voice of our higher self, the one Consciousness
    • This can lead to fear causing worry and panic
    • Which leads to over-reactions and actions based upon fear

    What needs to happen:

    • Stay grounded, centred, organised and practical.
    • The tendency will be to experience constricting emotions like fear, worry, panic.  To counter this tendency, use the energy of emotion but direct it toward love, joy, compassion and gratitude and service. This can most easily be achieved by embracing the fundamental aspects of Cancer that includes the feminine, home and family and our natural inclination to nurture and comfort.

A word of caution: for those of you deeply attached to family, it can be challenging because you will tend to be in “survival mode” and make choices from feelings of limitation and fear. Everything you need to live a beautiful life is within you and for those of you that can experience a bit of space, you will more easily see what it is you need to do. The best path is to practice staying connected to your own sweetness… then serving your family and the world from that source within you.

Building strength through May and at least the end of the year:

    • The conditioned mind tends to be unwilling to embrace sacrifice and disruption of conveyance and comfort
    • This creates a tendency to “over-think”,  losing the holistic perspective and getting lost in the bits and pieces of a situation

    What needs to happen:

    • Accept that life is asking you to let go of notions and attitudes that have been holding you back. This may happen through intensity but intensity embraced as an opportunity can lead to revelation and transformation rather than difficulty and suffering.
    • Blind belief is not your friend during this time. Use your logic, reasoning and common sense to make decisions but fight the urge to overreact and focus on only the details. The answer lies in the details but only as part of the bigger picture. Details can be examined but they must be evaluated holistically.

This is very general but this is what all of humans are dealing with. Each individual will experience a certain “flavour” but the fundamental energies remain the same…

The coronavirus is an opportunity to “wake up”, an opportunity to ask ourselves if we, as individuals, or us, as a nation of the global community, are prepared to face events perhaps more challenging in the future. Reports are that many of these recent outbreaks have been caused by human and animals interacting in ways that is not natural or healthy, eg, eating bats and other wild animals. On another front, several top scientists are telling us that the “5G Rollout” is causing virus mutations and a host of other problems.

Are we willing to sacrifice money, power, and convenience for our health and the health of the world?

In the future, we may not have a choice.

  • Who would you be if you were not you?

In a sense, the path to a fulfilling life is simply about letting go the past; the more you can let it go, the more joyful and pleasant life becomes. Why? Because it is the impressions accumulated from countless lifetimes that prevent you from living authentically, ie, in a way that honours the pure creative impulse within you. This impulse is the impetus of the life within us that causes us to move and act. Without modifications from the past, this impulse is completely free and completely natural to who we are. For such a one, life is completely fulfilling, completely satisfying.

Without a past, a bird is free to act as a bird, a squirrel as a squirrel, and a tree as a tree. This is why the wildness of nature is such a great friend: without any modifications from a past, the pure creative impulse from within expresses itself according to the nature of that which embodies it.

Elemental Astrology points to the karmic baggage we have brought into this life, baggage that prevents us from living authentically. This baggage is the subconscious impressions accumulated over many lifetimes made up of both the successes and failures from the past. Both prevent us from living authentically. Past success keeps us limited, limiting our capacity to look beyond the box. Similarly, our past failures and pain keeps us from allowing ourself to express fully in those areas of life, fearful, we are, of suffering again. It is only through letting this past go that we can move forward in our life.

How do you let go of the past? By fully engaging the present through your desire nature, but consciously. Fundamentally, what needs to happen to live authentically is to learn to act from your pure creative impulse and not compulsion. Compulsions are based upon the past. They are a modification of the pure creative impulse the impressions accumulated from past lives.

A classic misunderstanding is that one needs ambition and desire to act. This is simply not the case. Consciousness, of which you are a part, is all-knowing, all-pervasive, timeless and without limitation. If this is the case, then why would you need ambition to accomplish anything?

Ambition arises from the past. In fact, anything that arises from the past is a modification and will keep you from acting freely, according to your nature. Does the bird build a nest in the spring from ambition or simply because it is its nature? In the same way, we have all entered this life with natural talents and proclivities that allow us to fulfil our divine purpose. It is only when we resist our nature, either willingly or subconsciously, that our life becomes an emotional challenge.

Learning to act from what is natural to you requires space between you and your desires. There are two basic ways to do this: either through fulfilment of desire or through understanding. What this means is that when a desire arises, you can either choose to engage it and attempt to fulfil it or you can simply hold it within yourself until the desire dissolves through wisdom.

The first step in living a fulfilling, satisfying life is to learn to make conscious choices. Not every desire we have is beneficial, either for ourselves or others. In fact, most desires lead us into difficulty, even if they at first appear appealing. The first step, then, is to simply pause when a desire rears its head. Simply pause and make a space so you can look at the desire objectively. Will this desire support you in getting where you want to go? If you can do this simple step, you can eliminate a significant amount of turmoil in your life.

Though simple, it’s not easy to make this space within ourselves. Until we establish a certain amount of perceptivity within ourselves, our choices are determined by the subconscious impressions from our past. And it can be incredibly challenging to step back enough in order to objectively evaluate our choices.

Thankfully, astrology tells us we can make progress even as we make mistakes. By attempting to engage our desires consciously, we initiate a process by which, step-by-step, bit-by-bit, we begin to learn how to live from our pure creative impulse, a place within us connected to the source of all. Any engagement with our source brings feelings of immense joy, peace and bliss.

    Overcoming Capricorn’s Karmic Constriction

In Elemental Astrology, we examine human life according to three levels of consciousness: Body, Mind and Spirit. This section of the newsletter focuses on your Spirit (energy body) and a constrictive subconscious karmic impression currently unfolding in Capricorn according to your Sun sign through the spring of 2020. This constriction  is limiting your capacity to “hear” the voice of your higher Self, your authentic self. To offset this constrictive karmic pattern during this time, the sign of Cancer holds the key for rising above the karmic impressions.

This is a simplified view of only one aspect of your chart. For a complete analysis, book an astrological consultation to reveal the underlying karmic patterns holding you back and what you can do to release them.

  • Star Report: March 2019

This spring, we move deeper into the overly serious nature of Capricorn. How well we experience the fullness of life will be determined by our capacity to embrace our authentic Self, currently activated in the sign of Leo.

As the south node moves deeper into Capricorn, the constrictions from our past will begin to show up in our day-to-day activities causing us to become much too serious about our life. We may become more obsessive about organization, about the need to have everything in our life in order. We may become more cold and aloof with our loved ones, and, if not careful, more judgemental. We may become too focused on what we don’t have rather than what we have. We may feel like we have to spend too much time mired in the details of life what we really want is to be running through the grass chasing butterflies.

Opposite the south node is the north node. It spends this spring going deeper into Leo, the sign of self and Self. How well we embrace the latter and let go the former will help determine how well we experience life in a positive light. What is being asked of us is to become more clear about who we are — to let go of our small thoughts, our limited thinking and our petty desires. Our small, egotistical self leads to unfulfilling choices and confusion about who we are, what we want to do and where we are going. Our greater Self, our true nature, is bound to infinite Consciousness and represents unlimited possibility. The more we allow ourselves to fall into its arms, the more life unfolds effortlessly.

And here is the secret: your authentic self IS infinite Consciousness. All you have to do is open the door to your deepest, innermost desires and you will find your authentic self. The only problem is you have been chasing after petty desires, unaware of your true nature. Embrace your unlimited possibility and you will embrace your highest potential.

This spring, you have the support to make progress. So, do what you can to gain more clarity about what you really want. Jupiter and Saturn are still in their own signs of Sagittarius and Capricorn, respectively. This means you are already leaning toward believing in yourself, of having faith that you are a part of the cosmos (Sagittarius) and ready to listen to its urgings (Capricorn). Spend time in nature, in meditation and in service: these activities can bring you more clarity about who you are. Reflect on what you really want in this life, in your life.

After all, it is your life, isn’t it?

    Have a wonderful spring!

  • SuperMoon and the Spring Equinox

Today, another spring equinox is upon us, a time when day and night are in balance as the Sun continues its northward journey. This natural event affords us an opportunity to look within and give ourselves an honest evaluation, made more so by the co-occurring “SuperMoon”. Are we going where we want to go or are we simply letting our past compulsions and conditioning push us down the same ocean current we have gone before, a current that leads to frustration and dissatisfaction?

One way to help us sail a new ship is to use natural events, like the equinox, as a springboard to a greater understanding into our human condition. During the spring and fall equinoxes, there is an opportunity to experience a balance between the masculine and the feminine. Life on earth is possible because of the Sun and the Moon. Without either of these, life as we know it would not exist. The Sun, with light-giving warmth from its rays, is universally understood as necessary for life.

However, the Moon, too, is thought to be responsible. According to current research (https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/moon-life-tides/), the Moon’s effect on the earth’s tides allowed simple protonucleic acids to “wash up” onto rocks where salt concentrations were high enough to spark their combination and replication. The Sun gives light and warmth and provides the catalyst for life; the Moon nurtures and soothes life through the movement of earth’s oceans.

In spiritual traditions the world over, the Sun is associated with the masculine and the Moon with the feminine. The Sun initiates and protects while the Moon soothes the heat of the Sun and guides its light toward a life-sustaining, harmonious outcome. In the same way, the masculine quality initiates action, gives indiscriminately and protects. The feminine quality receives action, guides it with discrimination and nurtures it with compassion and love.

Both qualities are found in every object in the universe, in varying proportions. In the same way, the masculine and feminine qualities are found in each of us. If you identify as male, then fundamentally your nature is to act and protect. In the highest sense, this means you would tend to “do right action at the right time.” For one who identifies as female, their tendency is to receive and guide action, using it to nurture and pacify. However, as human beings still in the midst of spiritual evolution, the masculine and feminine qualities are often out of balance; ie., we tend to have too much of one and not enough of the other.

During the equinox, when night and day are balanced, the masculine and feminine qualities are naturally aligned and we can take advantage of this for our own benefit. During this time, watch how you approach the day, see if you can exemplify the two qualities within your own self. In truth, the qualities are simply another manifestation of the “opposites” that comprise the physical world. In the inner world, the two qualities merge and play together effortlessly. Though the body manifests these qualities in one way or another, who you really are is beyond the physical, beyond bodies and substance, you are Life, itself.

Though you may exist in a woman’s body, you can manifest the masculine as much as the feminine. If you exist in a man’s body, the reverse is true. For most of us, however, our masculine and feminine is not whole. A man with too little feminine/too much masculine may tend to be curt, aggressive, lack sensitivity and compassion, find it difficult to express his emotions. A woman with too little masculine/too much feminine will find it hard to “hold her own”, to be decisive and independent. Likewise, a man with too much feminine/too little masculine will be hesitant, unaware of what needs to be done, and listless. A woman with too much masculine/too little feminine will be too assertive, high strung and demanding.

During this spring equinox, watch yourself in your day to day activities. Take an honest inventory of yourself by watching how you interact with family, friends, coworkers and strangers. Our relationships act as powerful mirrors which reflect back to us our state of mind — good and bad. Where can you improve? What stood out as beneficial? In this way, you can take another step toward living harmoniously within your own life.
